Common Access Card (CAC)
The DHRA Headquarters furnishes DHRA Components with leadership and information on CAC issuance and procedures.
Important information:
In compliance with the Homeland Security Presidential Directive 12 (HSPD-12), and effective October 2006, the Department of Defense (DoD) began issuing a next-generation Common Access Card (CAC) to all Federal government employees and contractors. The initiative is part of an ongoing effort to ensure a safer work environment, for all federal employees and contractors.
The next-generation CAC can be used:
- As identification to enter Federal buildings and controlled spaces
- To log on securely to DoD networks, systems, and Web sites
- To encrypt or encode email
- To electronically “sign” documents
The new cards will be issued as old ones expire over the next three years.
Both current and new cards will remain simultaneously active through the end of the issuance period. So there is NO NEED to get a new CAC until your current card expires.
Learn more at the CAC Web site.
