Current Committee Studies

DAC-PSM study topics may originate from a variety of sources. The Committee Members, with their diverse expertise in prevention-related fields, can propose ideas for future studies. As DoD prevention efforts evolve, areas of need may arise as proposed study topics for consideration by the Committee’s sponsor, the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness (USD(P&R)). Additionally, Congress can mandate the DAC-PSM to review specific topics.

Committee study topics require Departmental approval before work can begin. Therefore, once a potential DAC-PSM study topic is identified, USD(P&R) reviews and approves the proposed study.

The following study is currently being undertaken by the DAC-PSM, through its Prevention Training and Activities Subcommittee.

Sexual Assault Prevention and Response in Professional Military Education

In the Fall of 2023, the Prevention Training and Activities Subcommittee started a study related to Professional Military Education (PME), with a specific focus on prevention instructor preparation.

The resulting report will offer insights and recommendations to the Department that seek to strengthen the training and development of prevention instructors. Study recommendations will be geared toward ensuring that instructors are well-equipped to deliver PME in a manner that effectively establishes solid foundational competencies in sexual assault and sexual harassment prevention.
